World Cord Blood Day

EDITLife Celebrates World Cord Blood Day

On November 15, people around the world will be celebrating World Cord Blood Day to recognize over 30 years of life-saving cord blood transplants.

Since the first cord blood transplant was performed in 1988, more than 35,000 cord blood transplants have been performed worldwide to treat over 80 life-threatening diseases including:

  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Thalassemia
  • Lymphoma
  • Leukemia

Cord blood also holds great promise in cell-based immunotherapy and regenerative medicine to potentially treat:

  • Autism
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Spinal Cord Injury —- and more.

World Cord Blood Day highlight these successes and raises awareness about the importance of preserving this vital source of stem cells.

FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) co-hosted a webinar in honor of World Cord Blood Day and is making it available free-of-charge on the FACT website. For more information and cord blood education, visit the World Cord Blood Day website.
